Federal Hall National Monument is the reminder of America's national history. It has a great historical significance. It was once located at 26 Wall Street in New York City. It was also the first capital of the United States. In the 19th century the building was demolished and replaced by the current structure and is now known by the first United States Customs House. The building is now operated by the National Park Service now operates the building as the Federal Hall National Memorial. Now it stands as a museum that commemorates the earlier structure.

The original structure of the Federal Hall National Monument was built as New York's City Hall in the year of 1700. This building has a history of its own. John Peter Zenger who was an American newspaper publisher was arrested in 1735 for committing libel against the British Government and consequently imprisoned for his committed offense. Later he was acquitted on the grounds that the material he had printed was truly established the freedom of the press. These printed words were later taken to define in the Bill of Rights.



The current building of Federal Hall National Monument follows the Greek revival in its architecture and was modeled in the shape of Greek architecture of Parthenon. There is a statue of George Washington on the steps of the building. His statue was built by the noted sculptor and presidential kin John Quincy Adams Ward.
